Adapting to Change: Fab Lab Barcelona’s Journey Through 2020
The year 2020 presented an unprecedented challenge to Fab Lab Barcelona, as it did to many organizations worldwide. Faced with a rapidly changing global landscape, we were compelled to rethink the concept of impact and reassess how we collaborate and apply our research to design a more sustainable future.
At Fab Lab Barcelona, we constantly push boundaries, exploring innovative ways to transform how we live, work, and play within urban environments. Despite the significant obstacles of the year, we were able to advance this mission and decided to encapsulate our efforts and accomplishments in the 2020 Social Goodness Review.
This report showcases how, through resilience and collaboration, we continued to drive positive change and adapt to the needs of a world in flux. Whether it was the development of essential medical supplies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic or the swift transition of our educational programs online, our dedication to social impact remained unwavering.
My Contribution to the Project
As the designer of the data visualizations and editorial layout for the 2020 Social Goodness Review, my role was integral in translating complex information and research into accessible and engaging visuals. The report’s central themes—adaptability, collaboration, and innovation—became the guiding principles for the design. I was responsible for crafting a coherent visual language that not only represented the diverse range of initiatives but also made the impact of Fab Lab Barcelona’s work clear to a broader audience. The data visualizations I designed served to illustrate the scale of our response to the pandemic, from the production of essential protective equipment to the rapid deployment of digital fabrication tools. By incorporating intuitive infographics, timelines, and interactive elements, I aimed to reflect the agility and creativity that defined the Fab Lab's 2020 endeavors. The editorial design brought a structured yet dynamic aesthetic to the report, weaving together the narrative of resilience and future-focused research with visually compelling layouts. Through thoughtful typography and careful organization of the content, I ensured that the report was not just a document of record but an inspiring call to action for continued innovation in the years ahead.
