Bridging Art, Craft, and AI: A Journey of Innovation

Being part of “If the Land Could Speak,” a workshop led by Mariana Quintero, was a deeply enriching experience. This initiative, organized by Fab Lab Barcelona, aimed to explore the intersection of art, design, and artificial intelligence, focusing on how these fields could contribute to regenerative practices and communal beneficial AI. Held in Mallorca, the workshop brought together a diverse group of collaborators, each offering unique perspectives on AI’s potential to foster both innovation and sustainability.

The weeklong event transcended typical academic approaches, allowing for a multi-sensory and hands-on exploration of how AI could engage with local traditions and ecological systems. Being immersed in this dialogue was transformative, as we worked together to draft an ethos that reflected the ethical implications and opportunities of AI within Fab Lab Barcelona’s ecosystem.

Capturing the Journey Through Fanzine Design

My role in this project was to document and visually narrate the experience through photography and the design of a fanzine—a memoir that encapsulated the spirit of the workshop. The fanzine served as a creative medium to reflect on the collaborative process, capturing the ideas, discussions, and emotional atmosphere of the week. By integrating both images and design elements, I aimed to convey not only the intellectual rigor but also the sense of community and shared purpose that defined this workshop. It became a visual representation of the journey, blending traditional craft with cutting-edge AI research, and serves as a tangible record of the innovative steps we took towards understanding AI’s role in shaping sustainable futures.
